Guest Lisa Hillyer shares her story of growing up in a small town in northern Alberta surrounded by alcoholism and trauma, leading to a habit of excessive drinking in her teenage years and adulthood. She also discusses how the loss of a parent and becoming a single mother at a young age contributed to her struggles with alcohol and disassociation. After finding Yoga and entering into recovery, Lisa became interested in the New Age world and explored different spiritual practices. She shares that even with all the healing work she had done, her body still held onto the trauma. It was discovering somatic experiencing, which allowed her to begin healing the trauma stored in her body. She also discusses her spiritual journey and the importance of surrendering to God. Lisa now lives on a five acre property on the Sunshine Coast in Canada with bees, ducks, and discusses how connecting to nature and homesteading has become an incredible healing experience.
